Journey to The Abyss

The ocean is not to be trifled with. No one likes a salty trifle. 

People need to stop doing what Big Sea wants them to do. Don’t surf, don’t go in submarines, don’t set up missile allocation bases that will inevitably make the backdrop for a poor horror film. 

Take a stand, stick to land. 

Oh, and don’t watch this film, just watch The Abyss instead.

The giant alien monster is so inconsequential to the plot of this movie that I was genuinely shocked when he showed up almost an hour in. The movie was just an underwater disaster/survival and then suddenly BAM huge and impressive monster. And even then! The monster is like a side obstacle. It does not change their ultimate goal at all. 

Fun movie! Wish it starred anyone of consequence to make it feel less like a TV movie, but at least there’s a couple of “that one guy”s in there.

Slick and hits its beats. Cast works, there’s some gore, and it’s got a big shrimp monster. I still like Leviathan better and I’d take the step down in slickness of The Rift.

Actually kind of enjoyed this one. I think it is begging for a remake. I’d love to write it myself. Pretty good as far as alien rip-offs go. It struck me as I watched how many 80s movie casts looked like regular people. It almost gives it a sense of authenticity compared to today. Crazy?
