had a more gritty & realistic feel compared to most bollywood films, which i REALLY enjoyed here. I want to see more bollywood that hits on this vibe. the railway men also scratches this itch. my impression of bollywood, simmilar to anime, is that sometimes things can feel cheesy or cartoonish or like romances seem like they come out of nowhere (this isn’t a bad thing just a specific style) — but this movie is not really like that for the most part. as the movie progressed I got more and more invested in seeing the main charecter succeed, and it even made me emotional at times. its an underdog story and its based on a true story! hard to imagine what it would be like to be from a tiny village when everything is stacked against you and hussle your way to the top, it was quite inspirational. on top of that, i loved the theme of him winning means everyone from his background is also winning.
