As someone who is obsessed with the crown i really like the takes and the humour it has to portray potentially the most scandalous event in modern history.
There’s nothing really shocking about this movie, everyone knows royal family is tone deaf, everyone also knows that prime minister or any politician ever is opportunist so it’s nothing new, but when it comes to royal family and things surrounding them it has always become an entertaining watch.
The portrayal of the queen’s internal “fight” of being silent is my favorite bit of the movie, the idea in practice will always be ridiculous to me because it showcases how useless monarchy is but this movie and the crown manages to showcase a new layer that while might not able to convince you to sympathize with the monarchy (it’s not trying to) it helps you to see it from a deeper and enriched point of view.
I also loved the way this movie presented diana in a more neutral light, i personally think every perception about diana and the royal family fiasco is fictional, no one will be able to comprehend what’s really happening behind the closed doors, which makes me always appreciate a more neutral and balanced perception of her, i personally think she’s kind but also manipulative, flawed and knows how to spin the media to her will.
S/o to Helena for her wonderful portrayal of Elizabeth, as you can see no matter how different people’s perception is of this movie and royal family in general, most people agree that she delivers a wonderful performance in this movie, i genuinely believe her performance is the heart of this movie.
