Set in the 14th century, and foreshadowing the theme for Bergmans following films, Jungfrukällan is an early revengefilm that stands out against the rest of Bergmans catalog. Maybe it's the brutality, the moralfilled almost fairytale-like plot, or the beautiful shot forest (reminiscent of Kurosawas' Rashomon). I don't know, but something makes this a pretty special film in his filmography, and a pretty special film from the year 1960. Love it. Max Von Sydow is so cool here.
