Street Fighter - Literal definition of «so bad… it’s still bad»
Street Fighter is a movie released in 1994, adapter/based on the video game series Street Figher. The movie is directed by Steven E. de Souza (Known for Die Hard, The Running Man.)
The movie follows Colonel William Guile (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and his army with the plan of taking over the world, they fight General Bison (Raul Julia), also creating a vicious mutant with his plan of ruling the world.
While there are a few positives, there aren’t many about this movie. Now, you have to be honest, whether you like the movie or not, the set design is iconic and deserves much more love. It’s highly authentic towards the game, very over the top & colorful, and very detailed. And even if the costume design isn’t top notch, it still follows the authentic look/style of the game. And the setting is also good. Those were the only positives.
First of all, Ming‑Na Wen (known for doing the voice of Mulan) did a horrendous job in this film, most likely the worst performance in the movie. The pacing was pretty rough too, when a movie goes to quick, or constant action, it looses it’s anticipation and becomes boring. And I saw they were trying to be «funny», which they failed miserably at. The cinematography is also pretty bad, mainly because around the «subject» where we are meant to see, there is many more interesting things to see around, empty space, blinking lights, colors and so on, and this is where our eyes naturally move. I’m not completely sure where to lay my eyes. The movie itself was poorly pulled off, with a rushed production, rushed choreography, poor acting. It even fails in being fun!
Overall? I hated every second with my whole heart full of compassion. I recommend skipping this one, and trying out Die Hard instead to get some real action.
