HIKARI!!!
A pretty and understated film about healing relationships set in the backdrop of Rikuzentakata's history of resilience as a community.
It's definitely a pretty film, with cinematography that gives me glimpses of Columbus. I'm always one for heartwarming dramas that focus on relationships but Kono Basho's just seem lacking with respect to writing depth to its characters—the situation is there, and is enough to land this film home, but the characters just seemed non-existent if taken out of the confines of the story.
Loved the chemistry between Arisa Nakano and Gabby Padilla though. Especially with the way Arisa performs despite the bland writing.
Regardless, I'll definitely be looking forward to Pacena's future works.
