not my favorite de palma movie, which is a shame because i love the time period and subject matter of this one. i was low key obsessed with al capone growing up and to this day i love a good mob movie.
it’s always a good time seeing the classic de palma tricks. the split diopter, POV shots, those wicked angles he often chose. i love it.
the baby stroller scene is absolutely insane. even if this isn’t one of my favorite movies from him, de palma outdid himself with that scene. there’s so many points of drama and tension it’s actually a marvel. your jaw is on the floor the entire time.
i was kinda blown to see andy garcia in this movie, i honestly had no idea he’d been around as long as he evidently has. the first time i ever remember seeing him was on george lopez as i wrote in my review for oceans 11 last night. crazy that he hasn’t changed his hair in 30+ years though lmfao.
kevin costner, james bond and robert de niro all did great. i won’t lie for the first 10 or so minutes it was hard to buy sean connery as anything but james bond. especially difficult considering he was unironically playing a first generation irishman police officer. something about that just felt implausible. but he sold me on it in the end.
good movie
