It’s cheesy, it’s self-indulgent, and nothing makes much sense.
I didn’t expect much different from this though, and I can’t say that I was terribly far off in my overall expectations. The dialogue, acting, editing, cinematography, and choreography all scream stereotypical crime-action movie. However, where isn’t really anything below the surface. I guess there’s sort of a thing about morality requiring action and condemning inaction, but that’s it. Even that is subservient to the indulgent action and such.
It’s not that I have a problem with movies like this, it’s that I want them to fully commit to being action for the sake of action or I want them to commit to a complex or compelling narrative. This didn’t commit to either, and so it didn’t really work that well for me.
Still, it’s competently made and I can’t really say that it’s awful or anything, so I’ll just leave it here for now.
TL;DR - Whoda thunk that Yondu would be responsible for the plot of something like this?
