i hate seeing straight people fuck. on a more serious note

i came for lesbian hopecore but lord there’s so much more and i am so touched by the representation of generational gaps between immigrant parents & their kids. seeing feng xia teaching her kids chinese and asking for translations just broke me😭. i also relate to her daughter cuz why is marriage like dat. also while i do not like wang jun at all i do understand where he came from but he had NO right to call feng xia an unfit mother to “his” children.

i also really resonated with how the movie shows the toxic environment asian women are often brought up because while im lucky to have more progressive parents, the idea that a woman’s sole purpose is to marry and produce (boys) is not an idea i haven’t been “taught” before by my grandparents. i often remember growing up strictly telling everyone i didn’t want to get married because this is exactly what i envisioned: an unhappy, trapped marriage with a man lol. it is so hard to remember this is the fate of many people irl chained down by what they thoguht was their destiny

on an over sharing note, i think this movie genuinely altered my brain because i don’t think i can ever live a fulfilling life with a man as my life long partner. because to marry a man is truly a catch 22 experience😬😬😬 and genuinely fuck everyone who acts like dating a girl is easier and a choice bc yall will never understand this
