I just watched Shrek’s “Thriller Night” (2011) for the first time, and honestly, I thought it was very average. It was kinda funny, but nothing amazing. I actually liked the Halloween vibe—it’s got that fun, goofy Shrek energy, and seeing Donkey getting way too into everything made me laugh a bit. The animation still looks decent, and when the zombie dance part kicked in, I was like “okay, this is kinda cool.” Seeing Shrek and Donkey doing Michael Jackson’s moves was funny, I’ll give it that. But that’s pretty much where the positives stop.
The story was super basic. It’s literally just them going into a haunted house, getting scared for a bit, then doing the Thriller dance, and that’s it. There’s not much of a plot or anything interesting that actually happens—it felt just like a music video. They tried to copy the Thriller style with the fog, lighting, and dance choreography, which was cool for a minute, but it didn’t really go anywhere. It just ends right when it feels like it’s getting started. I kinda wish there was more to it, like an actual story or more jokes. Overall, it was fine, but I wouldn’t really watch it again. It’s got a few funny moments, but it’s not that memorable. Honestly, I’d much rather just watch Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video instead—it’s the real deal…not this. This animated short is just one of those you watch once out of curiosity and then forget about five minutes later.
