“fly like you, not like them”

^ caught me off guard and made me struggle to not sweat from the eyes. this movie was special but not because it did anything surprising. on paper, it’s like any other animated kids movie with an uplifting message. sure it’s predictable, sure there might be a corny line or two, but holy shit does it tug at your heart strings if you let it. there is a reason it never gets old to tell stories of love and community and overcoming obstacles together — its core to who we are as humans and what we crave in our lives. it has all the overplayed themes, but yeah this movie reminded me they are overplayed for a good reason. if i saw this as a kid I’m sure I’d have some strong nostalgia formed around it.

this movie works when your invested in the characters so it noticeably felt slow for the first 20 minutes or so to me, but it’s absolutely worth it too just open yourself up and see where it takes you. it’s beautifully animated, has good voice acting, and it’s not too long. if you like movies like coco or up, you will love this. it’s a great comfort movie. at the end of the day, it excels at what its trying to do so I recommend it.

Never been more shocked that people love a movie so much. Animation style was cool, but beyond that wow does this movie offer little. I would characterize it as cheesy (kiss the sky) and in your face theming. It’s cute, but made me feel nothing, and they did not do anything novel with the themes of belonging, growing up, parenting, or tech.

they are really really close to the best execution of this vision. shoutout baymax shoutout walle but roz might be new top dog

beautiful visually (loved the fuzzy animation style, clearly very unique), great orchestral soundtrack, gorgeous settings (vibes in each of those places were off the charts), some surprisingly creative character development (think of how they introduced fink and got you to love him over the course of the feeding arc), and several very effective heart tugging moments (shoutout long neck in particular thats my guy)

also — the perfect dosage of tech futurism??? somehow this is slightly cyberpunk??? did you not gasp when the golden gate bridge made its way into this movie??

and yall its fresh non animated ip from a non pixar company lets celebrate that shit

…. but yes its a kids movie, it has childish jokes and dialogue and the plot is very easy to follow. i dont think that takes away from anything here, it’s truly just made for a younger audience than the pixars and it still delivers

shockingly good movie - when you see an animation style and rated pg, you run the risk of childish themes that don’t cut as deep, and don’t say much.

wild robot encapsulates the sacrifice a parent makes for their child, and how having a child can rewire parents to have a new singularity of purpose, effectively changing their purpose in life. i cried multiple times, the soundtrack adds weight to moments in an incredible way. great balance of levity, this is a movie that a child could love for the animations, and a parent who brings them could be engrossed for a full hour and a half.
