Snow Dogs

I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was expecting more than this. Snow Dogs is bland, saccharine, and lacks enough drama to make up for it. It's been probably 20 years since I saw this the first time, so maybe my rose colored glasses had my memories inflated, but Snow Dogs is half-baked. I thought they would do more with the dogs, but beyond Demon and Nana, they are all freely interchangeable and have zero personality. It's the same with the town. There was some much to explore and so many interesting people we pass by that could have added depth to the narrative. Sure, it's a Disney movie for kids, but beyond a few funny gags and cute dogs, what is there to really enjoy here. There were so many opportunities to really round out the world of the movie, but they're rather have a ten minute scene of Cuba falling down than one with him interacting with the townspeople or getting to know the dogs. Shit, even the dog sledding part is rushed as we see him get one tip from the attractive woman and the next scene he's off on his own. There isn't even a fucking training montage. It doesn't effect the score, but I have to point out how misleading Vudu/Fandago@Home's plot description is; "When a Miami dentist inherits a team of sled dogs, he's got to learn the trade or lose his pack to a crusty mountain man". That makes it seem like he's going to be in the big race against the old guy with the dogs at stake, but that is 100% not what happens.

Ok, so this is the first time I’ve watched this film in well over 10 years, I think, but probably not since I was a kid. I forgot how fucking weird this movie is. From odd, over the top CGI facial expressions on the dogs, to a floating big-sized Michael Bolton CD, I can see why this film killed Cuba Gooding Jr’s career. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to watch this film drunk, high, or both.

will never forgive my substitute for playing this in class on an 80 degree day with nothing to do, and making me write an essay on it.  least enjoyable class periods of my life because of this terrible mess.
