I expected more from this to be honest. I like the idea of having a more twisted take on a fairy tale and especially with an R rating they could’ve made it more extreme. There was less interest in the actual story and characters than the anticipation of waiting for fucked up stuff to happen.
I like the initial uses of mutilations and skin tears bc it was very refreshing to see after all of the suspenseful storytelling about wolves. Even when deaths occur they feel more cartoony than anything. There’s no sense of threat felt from any of the wolves or any antagonist. Especially when we see the antagonist in the end, he comes out of nowhere and feels weak like nothing justifies how frightening he is.
The characters are just poor and I didn’t care about them at all. There’s a lot of weird forced romanticism places upon the main character too. It’s weird bc one of the people that try to be intimate with her is this grown ass man. What saves this from being too bad is the amazing world building. As simple as it is, it’s beautiful to look at and this has this aura of fantasy attached to it. Along with the gore bc I like gore.
