We are missing out on one of the most batshit insane Broadway musical adaptations of all time.Ever since my friend showed me this movie, it has been on my brain like a benign cyst. This movie has become kind of a running joke within my social circle as a total "WTF" experience.
There is so much that is presented that's terrible. Chevy Chase is an extremely unlikable leading man, Demi Moore is miscast, the movie meanders throughout a series of vignettes, the humor is juvenile, and things happen without rhythm or reason.
What makes this movie appealing to me is how fucking entertaining it is. Dan Aykroyd is an incredible idea man, lest we forget 'Ghostbusters'. He made a movie. He did whatever the fuck he wanted, and it comes through in one of the most bizarrely creative, vile, and hilariously confusing experiences ever.
A part of me actually thinks this movie succeeds at what it's trying to do: create a bizarrely tense experience. This movie has some horrifying concepts, and it ultimately feels like a descent into hell. While there are tonal conflicts, this movie displays moments of bizarrely hilarious terror.
Realistically, this movie should be rated lower, but I loved rewatching this (especially since I was afraid its charm would wear off on a rewatch). I think everybody should watch this, and I hope to show this to a group of unsuspecting people soon.
