it's tough, because i like stories of people who end up in situations where they have to take care of children but there's this message of like, going with the grain and doing what society ultimately expects and pressures you to do [get married, have children, and in the case of our protagonist's sister, choose to not live out the life you've dreamed of in favor of being, what, a housewife? all for some man who's a chronic loser, explicitly stated in text?? like, this guy who joins a cult and subsequently so does she n then she has 4 kids like. that's fucked. AND THEY'RE HOMESCHOOLED. watching this upset me a lot actually lmao i'm ranting] it ALSO irritated me that we're meant to view the uncle, mike, as being unreasonable and cold for being ill prepared and unwilling to take custody of 4 children 😭
