The quirk on this movie was dialed up to 1000, I will admit it was funny with it being so quirky but I could get a bit weird at times. I don’t k ow how Wes Anderson convinces such huge actors to star in his movies but every single one of his has like 30 major stars for tiny roles for no reason at all. Williem Dafoes character perfectly embraced him. I thought the artistic vision was phenomenal throughout, the sets and camera work were impeccable. The cinematography was so on point. In the end, it was just a bit too much on the quirky side for me, Wes Anderson films always are and they really aren’t super my style but they are still fun. I’d watch again.

ive come to appreciate wes anderson a bit more as ive seen more of his stuff. the camera pans like a person’s eyes would, the plot moves fast, the shots are somewhere between beautiful and cartoonish, and the setting, dialogue, and plotpoints themselves are all zany but incredibly consistent throughout. and for some reason the characters show zero emotion

.. and this doesn’t build to all that hard hitting of a point, it’s really just a goofy lighthearted ride. i enjoyed the royal tenenbaums a fair bit more, because ben stiller slapped me in the face at the end and made me cry

but on the whole i definitely have trouble connecting with wes’s characters — theyre aliens living in an alien world

symmetry this symmetry that. the shots were beautiful, but the genius comes in the writing. it is written like a hemingway book, just enough detail to make the prose beautiful but straight to the point. i appreciate it for the pacing. i got the satisfaction of reading a book through watching a movie which i can’t say i have experienced before. not an all timer, but very good in it’s own way.
