Nah, this was an absolute GOATed movie as a kid and now rewatching it as an adult, still GOATed. Yeah it’s a children’s movie but fuck it’s dark at times, this is what I grew up on, now the pieces are coming together. I swear the lion king ripped this movie off, like I’d put money on it, because dang, there’s quite a few similarities. But hey, great characters, good story, some depression, good ending, even one or two tense scenes, it’s crazy because I’d rather watch this than any of that shiet marvel is rolling out. Solid one all around here. Spike is a legend.

The first half of this movie is so astonishing that I was legitimately perplexed that people do not talk about this movie all the time as a perennial classic of animation and children’s film. But then the second half happens, and all the dinosaur children meet up and start talking and all the majesty of the first half evaporates.  I see reviews mention “yeah this is a classic, not like all the sequels where they have them sing!” Okay but they might as well start singing in that second half, because they get into nonsense shenanigans like fusing together with tar to look like a monster to scare off danger.  The animation stays strong though, and it’s worth it for the first half .
