i was lucky to see the first international screening at RSIFF, before the movie started the director lee jeong-chan and main actress kwak sun-young introduced it to us, they told us to really focus on the movie, which made me excited to see what it was about
the premise is very interesting, bullying is a big issue in south korea, and i thought this would just be about a young girl bullying her classmates, but it turned out to be so much worse, the mom, played by the main actress, was amazing, her facial expressions showed so much exhaustion in every frame, and the young girl sihyun was so good, i really hated her lol, when kids act that well it’s awesome
the first part of the movie had great structure and build-up, the score was unsettling and fit the theme perfectly, the swimming pool scene at the end of the first part was so uncomfortable, it actually made me feel suffocated, but it was executed so well, the second part was really different, it felt like a completely different movie, which threw me off at first, after it ended the director explained how two directors worked on each part, that made sense, i just wish the first part was developed into something else and the second part could have been its own standalone film, but they did connect well in the end.
the director also explained the two names of the movie, “침범” (chimbom) in korean means invasion, which refers to the girl invading everyone’s life, and “somebody” asks “who is this girl to everyone, even her mother?” as a debut film (i think it was), it wasn’t bad at all, i enjoyed it.
