Even though I haven't watched all of Greenaways newer movies it's always a surprise seeing them, as you never quite know what to expect from his style. He seemed to have picked up a slightly more contemporary style in the 90s, but with Nightwatching he seemed to kinda gravitate back towards his slightly more extravagant and very stylistic way of approaching filmmaking. Here I don't know what he's going for quite honestly. There's still some funky things going on, but nothing compared to what we've seen and it's hard to pretend it still feels like Greenaway.
We follow a neurotic and annoying character, I don't know how close his portrayal is to the real life counter part, non the less annoying characters isn't exactly a new thing for Greenaway. However surround this character with uninteresting characters and a story that doesn't really exist you don't exactly get a great movie. It's a shame really, but it just doesn't feel much like the Greenaway I've come to love
