I loved this movie! It was a bit too long and it cracked me up when they used the same actor for dad and adult son. Otherwise, visually captivating and cinematic, loved the glimpses we saw into the characters lives. really makes you think about the impact of authoritarianism on regular people seen through the Brazil 1970s lens. scary!

Also loved the random un-tied up shark thing

to be frank, historical fiction’s usually not my jam when it comes to media — especially not when the movie in question is 2h40m and intentionally slow-rolled — but i was surprised to reflect and find i liked this slice-of-life-y, introspective movie

it’s a very individual-level take on life in brazil in the 70s, a time and place combination i had zero prior knowledge of, and i left it feeling uplifted about rebellion, curious about the history of brazil, and wanting to discuss the film’s final moments and how they made me feel

history is not all distant — that shit carries weight, and the world has changed a lot in the last 50 years, just like it has for each 50 prior

ultimately, though, this type of movie still isn’t my jam. if it’s yours — you’d really love this!!

heavy narcos feel. not just bc of wagner mora. very slow, but also well done. made me long for brazil. ending ramp up is exciting. but it ultimately feels like story was just not that exciting or movie was too long.

Very interesting story that left me somewhat overstimulated by the narrative itself. It's a slow burn but aptly engaging. The Secret agent fells like a coalescence of political thriller, urban myth, and memory lane. The cinematography is astounding. Observational, tension- building, and rich palette. It is always a delight to see split diopter employed. 

To be frank, i found it quite hard to fully grasp the plot since many threads intersect with each other, despite the movie divided into three parts. The subtle transition between the past and present timelines also disrupts my focus. On top of that, There are also so many characters appeared abruptly without proper introduction. 

But regardless of it all, Wagner Moura is fantastic playing three versions of the same characters across different time in this chronology. It definitely requires a second viewing for me to understand more fully, but it was a thrilling ride.
