What is it with Miguel Ferrer having homoerotic scenes in public toilets? I do feel like they could've done more with this but it did introduce me to one of my favourite songs and the last twenty or so minutes go so hard. The first time I watched this I had a nightmare the night or a few days before where everything went black and white during the dream so got really freaked out when this suddenly shifted into black and white. I really love the entire 'dream' sequence with the vampires attacking him. I was also very pleasantly surprised with how good the special effects were when I first watched it.

Even less action than I was afraid of but still pretty entertaining.
The first two acts are pretty much just an investigation and a fairly intruiging and original one, a fine protagonist even though he’s an asshole.
The third act had the coolest scenes but still lacking in any actual conflict.
The night flier himself both looks and sounds great, just sad how little we get of him.
So much left unexplained but I still liked the ending.

Always fun to see Miguel Ferrer being a sourpuss asshole and I love the genre "people doing research for an entire movie", but The Night Flier doesn't have many joys beyond that. The grisly and on-the-nose third act does nothing for the chill X-Files-esque vibe the rest of the film had going on.

There is a sort of getting too close to the truth Lovecraft thing in The Night Flier and I guess you could make an "Icarus flying too close to the sun" analogy if you really wanted to.
