A weak finale to the hobbit trilogy in my opinion.
To start, I found the death of Smaug early on to be pretty underwhelming. I was hoping for a bigger fight rather than a lucky shot from bard. I found the battle and fight scenes to be very engaging, however, some parts such as when Legolas ran up the falling rocks to be wayyy too unrealistic for my liking.
Comparing it to another big fantasy-final-movie-battle such as Harry Potter 7’s Battle of Hogwarts, I found the character deaths in tbotfa to be kinda not that sad. The death of Thorin was heartfelt sure, but Fili and especially Kili's deaths just felt like side characters.
The comic relief of Alfrid also felt so out of place especially when his scenes were thrown in the middle of many fight scenes that resulted in character deaths. Could’ve used a character like him in the earlier films (but even then he wasn’t really that funny and I would’ve been more than fine with him dying during the attack on laketown)
Also why was everybody teleporting. It felt like characters would set off to run to the otherside of the battlefield, then next scene they’re there with a battalion of men all on horse things. For such long movies u think they could spare a few minutes just to show them all band together, find those horses and charge thru the battlefield a bit.
There were things I liked though. The battles and fight scenes were entertaining like I said above, and Thorin’s stubbornness for the first half of the movie was frustrating to watch but in a good movie way. And I always love seeing a character return home happily so that was good for Bilbo.
But yeah a lot more critique in this review than the others but it’s always easier to say what u don’t like rather than what u do. Despite this review being 100x longer than my last two, I don’t dislike this movie 100x less than the others
