John and Mary have lived with desolating grief and the agony of uncertainty for the past ten years. Their only child, Clare, ran away from home when she was fourteen and no trace of her whereabouts has ever been found. When Clare returns, now a young woman of twenty-four, Mary is overjoyed. But John comes to believe that Clare is not who she claims to be. As old tensions resurface, a gripping search for the truth unfolds.

Very solid film, slightly boring at times but definitely an intriguing and thought provoking watch.

i really think this would have been better as a tv miniseries. although i don’t know if it’s actually interesting enough for more than 3 episodes. i think if i hadn’t been watching this in the cinema i would have turned it off half way through but despite that i think it raises interesting questions about parenthood and loss. i think each character has depth to them but i wouldn’t class this film as compelling by any means. i wanted to know the answers to the plot but i was slightly disappointed by them and felt like some weird choices were made in the writing. i understood what they were going for but i just can’t imagine anyone acting the way the characters did in their specific situation. that being said i think ‘clare’ was endearing towards the end and i was definitely rooting for her in some sense.
