“do you still think about that night?”
“every night.”
dont watch or read anything about this, if you know nothing about this movie going in you’ll have the best chance of loving it for what it is
a really really really fun original piece. some pieces not fitting together as tightly as i wouldve hoped though, even after watching some analysis videos. but an amazing original regardless. as a rule, i just adore a well-executed suspension of disbelief — coogler asks the viewer believe some pretty weird truths about the story world, and as the viewer you believe them without question. zero eye rolls in what is on paper a very eye-rolling plot.
worldbuilding: incredible, on par with blade runner. historically accurate with some incredible creative twinges.
music: pretty freakin awesome, plays a central role
plot: love how it evolves. didnt expect the direction it turned and loved it all the more because of that surprise
acting: best all year, maybe
bro-meter: 2 bros in this one, without a doubt
end scene: love it. you just gotta love a 50 years later heartwarmer
hotness: lip bite emoji
symbolism: tries to do too much, IMO. need a tinfoil hat and a masters in us history to link some of the symbols together. why the our father at the end? what’s the point of all the magical power that music has? what is the villain’s motivation? it’s really stretching to link some of these together
tons of fun though. stoked to see what coogler does next
