I have no attachment to the subject that this essay is about. Yet what a successful essay does it at least create intrigue for the unfamiliar but this one didn’t even manage to get a glance from me. It was horrendous boring and beyond tedious with constant boorish ramming of the same idea over and over and over again with no room for new thoughts. Instead lashing me at every second possible to pose the same old tired question - that question was tired by the third proposal which in this case was already starting to get on my nerves. To have this be longer than 60 minutes would be labeled as torture since the archival footage and the narration don’t have a slim amount of interest in doing anything other than its central ideas of masculinity and sexuality being what it is and how it was portrayed back then with the central figure having his thoughts narrated from a diary that never existed. Well it was success at one thing - wasting my time.

Look, I love Rock Hudson, and if anything else this is a neat time capsule, but the leering commentary was a big no from me and a lot of the afirmation footage felt a little inconsequential. Still fun to spend an hour thinking about the rock Hudson “persona” though.
