So is it safe to say Bob Odenkirk is an action star now. I mean he has the nobody movies and now Normal. Do he probably needs a couple more but hell I like all his action movies so far.
Normal follows an interim Sherrif as he comes to a town called Normal only to find that's its not as normal as it seems when a bank robbery goes wrong.
Bob Odenkirk's Sherrif Ulysses falls perfectly into the reacher esqe type of character. His funny, cool in his action scenes and his backstory while a little cliche is done well. His just a fun protagonist to follow as he integrates into this normal town with "normal" problems. I also think his side kick he picks up was a hoot and want to see more of her if we hopefully get a sequel. She showed such a cool personality especially in the third act.
As for the town itself. I like how it's presented. It's definitely if hot fuzz was set in the usa kind of deal. That being said it's well done. It looks like small town usa. Everyone is friendly, the places look nice and all that. The people were the highlight though especially the mayor, bartender and police officers. They don't hide the secret very well but it's hidden enough to make you wonder.
As for the action it took a page out of ballerinas book. When it hits its just chaos all over town. The action is both funny and has some good serious moments especially from Lena heady. She was great in the jail cell scene and I wished she was more in the movie. Some death were comical and others fun. The last shootout felt right out of Tarantino's book in all the best ways.
So in the end I wouldn't mind getting an entire series with Sherrif Ulysses as he goes from town uncovering mysteries and what not. Bob brings his classic charm to this new character too. The action as a ton of as well. So it was well worth a watch.
