Watching something like this makes you feel quite depressed about Australian film as an industry. Every year you can find so many great cinematic experiences from around the world like the USA, UK, China, Japan, South Korea and even hidden gems from around international film industries I need to explore. Then you look at Australia and it seems that at any given time we have a maximum of, like, 3 genuinely great filmmakers with only one or two notable projects releasing in a year. That's incredible small considering the wealth of this country and how much filmmaking occurs here. Other countries have their slop farms too but it feels like it makes up way too much of our industry. When are we gonna be making stuff that can break out of the AACTA Awards? Just hurts since I want to go into this industry and I really hope it doesn't stay this way. If you have any good recommendations for modern Australian films that I've missed, please tell me.
