This gets an extra half-star for the ending because it blows up into a whole other level.
But before the last few mins, this is a bad global conflict movie driven by a cast of terrible characters. The single black character is relegated to being a drug addict even before he's plagued by insect warfare. Then when his insanity is insectfully induced, he becomes crazed in a parodic way including a superfluous rape implication. This isn't the only example of gratuitous rapey vibes.
Joji, one of the main characters, is an overall scum bag. He treats his wife like garbage. He does nothing to defend himself from his murder accusations. He's simply a wrongly convicted weasel with zero ounce of humanity.
The rest of the movie is plagued with dumb characters. Even the better characters are still either uninteresting or relegated to narrative margins.
