Based on the director’s life himself Isao Takahata made by him as an apology to his little sister for letting her starve and die to Malnutrition during the world war 80 years ago.
This isn’t an antiwar movie or a movie to make u feel good nor bad the author lets u know early on the children are gonna die so u wont suffer but that still isnt enough.
History talks about heroes, political leaders and the victorious but history forgets the people who have no power which are the children, people who have no impact they’re just statistics, the movie exists so those children and the powerless are not forgotten.
I could write a whole book about this movie, just gonna say apart from being heartbreaking it is a very important movie to watch and understand.
