The portrayal of Hannibal could’ve been a lot better. I really liked the first 30 minutes of the movie it felt really promising and had a good set up about Hannibal’s upbringing but as the story went on it kind of started to feel like just an overall cliche plot for revenge and a little similar to Dexter (ofc im aware the show started a year before this movie came out just pointing out the similarity). What I’m trying to say is Hannibal really didn’t feel like Hannibal in this movie not because of the different actor of course, rather the acting. I felt the way he said his lines as Hannibal came off as too cocky and corny for the character and I felt like I was watching someone completely different for more than half of the movie. I did enjoy the look and vibe of the movie though.

For the same reason I don’t like Joker origin stories, I don’t like this one for Hannibal. 

The psychological depth is all stripped away, he is just a revenge driven “bad guy”. There is no mystery or gravitas when it’s laid out this way. 

Movie is pretty enough to be visually captivating. But other than that generic 2000s prequel slop that I’ve seen over a dozen times.
