I had to rewatch this after my Godzilla marathon just to give it a proper review, and just so u know, I’m NOT a fan of the MonsterVerse at all. I have my own beef with it.
First of all, was the lighting budget like $5? Because the movie was so damn dark I could barely see anything. I spent half the time staring at a black screen wondering if my TV was broken. It’s a movie about giant monsters, but I guess the directors thought it’d be "cinematic" if we just didn't see them.
And even tho Godzilla actually looked terrifying here, HE WAS BARELY IN THE MOVIE. Finally, when it seems like he’s about to fight the MUTOs and destroy the city... we’re finally gonna see him, right? HAHA, sike! You thought! Instead, we get soldiers on parachutes slowly drifting down. Focus on them, please!🫵 Because SURELY the fans would much rather watch a boring human plot than the actual Godzilla, who the movie is named after, right? The disrespect is actually insane. 💀
Half the film felt like some random, boring human drama instead of a Kaiju flick… bruuh. I’m here for Godzilla, not for a generic soldier's family problems. And the fact that he only got like 8 MINUTES of screen time? R U FKIN KIDDING ME? Imagine being the King of the Monsters and being a background character in your own Hollywood debut. I feel so bad for my boi Goji.
At least he got buff asf here. I lowkey love the design, but his head is a bit square-ish for me, looks like a gigantic otter lmao. BUT, I gotta admit, that atomic breath scene HAS to be the best one ngl.
Honestly, this is probably the only decent movie in the MonsterVerse where the actual message of Godzilla as a force of nature is still somewhat there before they turned it into a superhero circus. It’s easily the "best" out of this trash series But overall... meh.
