A few decent formal touches unfortunately aren't enough to elevate this otherwise centerless kitchen-sink drama. Would be a lot better in my estimation if even one of the movie's handful of interesting half-ideas were actually developed at any real length.

I am no longer a human being, I am...an inflatable doll...
the whole thing with the inflatable doll remained me of the air doll film, she became a human but the main character in this movie “becames” an air doll

believe it or not, Kids (1995) is worse.
like everybody else i also appreciate the grittiness and in your face element that this film provides. the objectification of women, the incest, the violence and the rough sexual acts show the sad reality of prostitution and it’s a shame that women still have to sell their bodies to make ends meet. i knew from the beginning that this wasn’t going to be just a regular pornhub type, but at the same time i don’t know what i even expected, and to be fair, i only watched this cause Sean Baker (wonder if this inspired Anora by any chance though) did and i trusted him. not that i hate this film, but i’m not going to pretend like it’s a masterpiece either. it’s just rough sex and nasty perversion with some plot lines in between — but when they progress into intercourse, it is not in a way to turn you on. fortunately, it is the opposite.
and as for my statement above, i do hate Kids 95 fyi. at least Secret Chronicles gives you something to think about.
