At first, I honestly wasn’t feeling the kilig. Parang wala lang... I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have a happy crush or current fling at the moment, pero I really couldn’t get into the mood. The first half felt a little slow... kind of flat... and I wasn’t convinced yet that they had chemistry.
But things started to shift when Parin began throwing hints... asking if they could maybe be more than best friends... casually making acronyms out of random things. That’s when it finally clicked for me... they did have something. There was a charm there that took a while to show up, but when it did, it was sweet and nakakakilig in a quiet way. Lalo na yung nag-kiss na sila, parang trained yata talaga sila na humigop??!
Then came the ending... ang sakit.
That line from Janella’s character, “Please look for happiness even without me”... It suddenly made sense why she was pulling away... her condition was getting worse, and she didn’t want to be remembered as someone na weak. It wasn’t just a love story anymore... it became something heavier... more heartbreaking.
Even the little details hit harder after that... like the lines, "Mabuhay! Fai Lok, Fai Lok... and of course, Happiness." At first it felt cute... quirky...
Also, can we talk about how they made Win Metawin curse in Filipino? Tawang-tawa ako sa part na yon HAHAHA. Acting-wise, Janella stood out the most for me. She carried the emotional beats really well... you could feel her softness and pain in the same breath.
Pero yun nga... I still felt bitin. I think the film had a strong title, Under Parallel Skies... ang poetic pakinggan di ba... pero parang hindi nila na-maximize. I was expecting more symbolism, more emotional parallels or reflections on fate... pero it didn’t go that deep. It stayed within the bounds of a love story that almost soared... but didn’t quite.
So in the end, it’s not a bad film at all. It has some genuinely touching moments and great performances... pero as a whole, it could’ve done more. For a movie that talks about finding happiness... I just wish it made me feel more of it.
