A very 90’s feeling killer/detective thriller with an enjoyably fast paced storyline that kept me interested and an array of impressive performances across the cast. Stephen Rea was a great choice for the lead detective and Donald Sutherland is as good as always, I genuinely don’t think he has a bad role in his entire filmography. Seeing Jeffrey DeMunn not only as a skinny young man (compared to only seeing him in The Walking Dead this was a bit startling) but also a child murdering serial killer was shocking, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find him intimidating, but by the end, and especially after the interrogation scene, I knew I was wrong, great performance from him here. Not overly long or anything, a quick and intriguing story that doesn’t mess around and even though I love a good movie with a bunch of twists and turns I definitely have a soft spot this kind of storytelling too. There’s nothing particularly bad that makes me give this a 3 I guess just wasn’t fully into it. Very cool movie though. Could definitely see a 3.5 on rewatch someday.
