Taken during a pride parade, Gay USA is a great snapshot of American queerness during the 70s. Defiant and proud, the film showcases the perspectives of those participating in the parade, those opposing it, and those there to support. Interestingly among the gay men and women present are differing opinions on a wide array of subjects, showcasing how much life had changed between then and now and how these differences will always be present, debated, and discussed.

Like two of the shorter films included on this DVD, it moves me more than I can describe to see this historical footage of our community. I see so much of our modern community in our forebears. I’m so glad that this historical document was preserved for future generations to better know our past as we continue to navigate the present and future of our community and our movement.

i know that the first of the month was yesterday but i just wanted to say happy pride month to all my fellow queer people out there and that you all have so much love to give to the world but also are very deserving of that same love that you give out as well and that you should never be ashamed of being you and loving whoever it is that you want to give your love too because at the end of the day it’s YOUR life and you deserve to live it the exact way that you want to live it freely and after watching this little documentary i love every single bit of it and how it showed so many of the queer community come to get there and celebrate eachother and march for the very rights that every single queer person in this god awful country deserves because just because we are queer doesn’t mean that we aren’t all human beings with thoughts and feelings just like heterosexuals no person deserves to be treated awfully just because of their sexuality that’s absolutely ridiculous to me and i just wanna say to every single queer person out that to never let any of these disgusting homophobes try to ruin or hurt you any type of way just because they let go of that hatred that lives so deeply in their minds & hearts and should all go fuck themselves 💗
