I was amazed by this movie, it’s such a gem! Not only it’s a movie directed by the only female director of the era but it’s about a female issue with a strictly female perspective. I completely loved it. I enjoyed the realism of it but also it’s very sympathetic with the subject matter. The ending proves that she doesn’t need to suffer more for this supposed mistake and offers a redemptive alternative. I was pleasantly surprised with the romance too, it felt completely genuine and not like many of the dialogue lines of the time, which I love but you can tell people doesn’t speak like that in real life. A must watch if you’re interested in women in the movie business. Ida Lupino was honestly so iconic.

tudo aqui parece como se fosse uma fantasia tecida fio por fio em um mundo de verossimilhança da realidade moderna, tal conto nunca foi apresentado dessa maneira no cinema, tudo aqui se encontra em perfeita harmonia entre o tangível e o conto, as escadas da casa do Steve como se fosse os degraus de um castelo, a pista para trens como se fosse experiência a própria magica ou ate mesmo um sorriso carismático de um belo homem sendo o transe para o amor platônico; Porém tudo isso podendo mudar ou ter outro significado, podendo até mesmo apodrecer, pois muito do cosmos dessa obra ocorre detrás das lentes das câmeras, evidenciado nos primeiros segundos de filme com os créditos subindo.

Not a bad picture all things considered, not a perfect drama of course, things feels too rushed especially during the third act, somethings felt underdeveloped, eome characters seems very underused and some themes should be further explored in my opinion but overall it's still gripping as hell and the direction (from actress Ida Lupino) and cinematography is striking and masterful! The performance is not too bad actually and overall it was very enjoyable, especially that ending! What a great one to end a film like this. Might not be might emotional or poignant as I have hoped but Not Wanted is not bad! If you want a good drama from the late 40s that have some feels of independent cinema and film noir then this is a great one. Again not perfect but I do have to admit that ending and the rest of the film overall was very effective, very enjoyable and most of all impressive for a indie 1940s film.
