RIP Brian Wilson
I long for the day when someone is brave enough to make a deep dive documentary on how fucking weird this band actually was and all the dark shit that surrounded them. But instead we get a Beach Boys doc with all the PR cliches (Mike Love actually wrote songs too, Beatles rivalry, Dennis the only surfer, Pet Sounds too weird, etc) that ignores the band beyond the 70s. I find this close to the Beatles 64 doc — too much time spent with random celebs that had nothing to do with the music, a lack of new information, and again, PR cliches we have heard a million times before.
A disappointment, but pretty much what I expected from a 100 minute documentary on Disney+.
Doc is well put together and the music, of course, is great. Points for mentioning the Manson connection.
