Lord Shiraishi I'm sorry I doubted you, for at the halfway point I lost faith. I was unimpressed with the path the film was beginning to wander down. A good 5 minutes later I realized the error in my ways, and from then until the end I had an absolute blast.
Different from 99% of other Shiraishi films I've seen (that 1% comes from Kinki being hybrid found footage) in that this is shot like a conventional horror film, complete with some jump scares too! Not to say his style isn't noticeable still... Don't worry, there's still some high concept, low budget CGI on display here (of some familiar looking worms, I might add).
A lot more violent than usual, with some good usage of blood and fun kills.
Really enjoyed this one. A good switch up to the usual Shiraishi formula. Feels almost similar to a later entry in the Senritsu Kaiki series in vibe & how it goes off the rails, instead of something like Noroi or Occult.
Caught myself lacking this past weekend, gotta play some heavy duty catch-up this week.
