Breaking things out into two parts for you all today. Feel free to skip part two unless you like seeing me complain :)
Part 1: The Roses review
Part 2: Jacob’s incredibly snobby take on theater etiquette
1/ The Roses
Resentment is a heavy topic to explore and to do it with comedy is extremely impressive. It’s a struggle that most face in some way or another and it can be utterly debilitating.
The duo of Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman really could not have mastered this dynamic much better. Certainly helps that they are British for the comedy because I thought they were simultaneously elegant and romantic as well as hilarious and sinister
If it weren’t for what you’ll read next, I think this would be rather higher.
2/ Theater Etiquette
Going to the movies is by far my favorite past time. An escape from life where you feel immerse in whatever story is being presented to you.
This escape can be ruined if in the presence of people who don’t give a shit about others.
Unfortunately tonight I was surrounded by the worst kind of people.
To my right: two high school aged guys who chatted throughout the 1hr 30min runtime, used their phones every 5 minutes (because there is something wildly more important than the movie on there), and even accused me of being in their seats (I wasn’t)
To my left: originally a man who repeatedly coughed on me until he moved to a different seat because he want in the right seat to begin with, then some dude who commented on quite literally every scene in the movie with the phrases, “That’s so crazy”, “She’s so crazy”, or “He’s so crazy. This absurd man also took his shoes off and got his bare ass feet on my chair about half way through the movie.
To say that I was bothered by this experience and it ruined the movie would be an understatement. Typically an early showing means douchebags like me who take movies too seriously are seated throughout the auditorium. Not tonight :(
Thanks to all my pookies for letting me bitch. If you actually read this, I love you 😘
