This last year or so I’ve been a real Hitchcock kick (say that five times fast lol). I was scrolling through the TCM library and stumbled on Sabotage, one of his early British thrillers that seems relatively underrated. I figured I would like it, but turns out it’s immediately one of my favorites?? The marriage drama at the center of this is so juicy. The sad story of a hum drum husband who has to resort to terrorism bc of his money problems all while being cucked by the secret agent investigating him. And his growing awareness that he will never be a real father to the surrogate child that they care for…there’s so much rage and resentment about domestic failures waiting to explode. Every moment of this movie is so rich, and it’s capped off by inspiring the plot of Decision to Leave in the last 10 minutes.
Was also very taken by all the little amusements that conceal much darker happenings. There’s so many unsettling depictions of movie theaters and aquariums and pet shops and street hawkers. The insane shot where the glass of a fish tank turns into a screen depicting London melting…. Kinda wanna revisit this immediately
