Yk it’s a good film when you can make the simple scene of a boy bringing his mother some bread full of tension and emotion. This film was so simple in its narrative yet so complex in its nuance and development. The story was shattering and the acting was amazing. Im usually decent at guessing plots and picking up on patterns but this film not only subverted my expectations but it did so in a way that was far more saddening and impactful. The mum in this is genuinely messed up, I just wanted to go help the boy and lead him away from the life I know he is headed towards. No child deserves to carry such a burden of emptiness, neglect and rejection. I really feel for the poor dude. He was such an innocent, kind and gentle child and things outside his control just tear away at every ounce of good in him. This film is one of many other wonderful films that depict such deterioration in such a heartbreaking and depressing way. It was really well made though and definitely one I’d come back to/recommend.
