Thought this was going to be compelling, but it was just a boring nothing burger. Clive Owen has blonde hair in this for some reason. I do think the Narration by chapters was a neat touch, but the end is just bad.

It’s constructed in a way that I feel is meant to mimic gambling, laid back but harbors that high intensity and makes you constantly question if he is bluffing. Really cool. 

Clive Owen is so cool except when he has that hat that has way too wide a brim.

I, Croupier is not a great title. This movie made the right decision to drop the I.
I found this movie interesting more as a look at life in the UK at the time from the perspective of a character who lacks a moral compass so therefore follows a few key rules (most of which he breaks during the course of the movie). I also liked a lot of the technical aspects of the movie but agree that the connections in the plot start to fall apart upon closer inspection… The violent sex scene? The girlfriend having an affair? She died how? Wait, the casino robbery was actually successful?? Did he almost sleep with his future stepmom because apparently his dad has really been playing 3D poker all along instead of making margaritas at the hotel bar?!! 
I will however praise the decision to dye Clive Owen’s hair back to black because I don’t think I would have made it through to the end having to look at him with bleach blonde hair and his girlfriend was never going to survive til the end after she said she preferred him as a blonde!
