The handsome, wealthy smoke show Mr. Dickley is about to propose to the stunning Essy Talbot, but he notices a blood stain on her dress and carries her to her house, a’la Sense & Sensibility, to seek medical attention. But it turns out the bleeding isn’t from a wound, but from her period. It’s silly, but also weirdly beautiful.

"Mr. Dickley was about to propose marriage, but I started early."
This was a really fun and refreshing take on an Austen–style period drama. It’s genuinely good to see a comedy short film like this getting Oscar recognition, it feels well deserved. The humor lands really well, and while it easily could’ve veered into cringe territory, it never does. Instead, it stays charming, witty, and genuinely funny throughout. A clever, lighthearted short that knows exactly what it’s doing.
