and if I said I think this deserved the Oscar for animated short film more than The girl who cried pearls.... whoops I said it now. The choice to base this on a real life athlete (Alfred Nakache) who truly went through these horrors was such a bold and hard hitting choice that I think, really paid off. First of all I've got to say the style of this movie is absolutely incredible, the way the water moves throughout is just stunning and the art style of this and the colour palettes chosen honestly made this a win in my eyes even without the storyline. Not to give away spoilers here but it is truly just such a sad story, the way they were able to contain his attachment of trauma to the water and to convey it so believably was so commendable, I had no idea it was based on Nakache so had no idea the route this would take but it was all handled so delicately yet so hard hitting and I think to achieve such a feat in less than 20 minutes is an achievement.
