This award-winning, thrilling story is about a group of discarded kids who revolutionized skateboarding and shaped the attitude and culture of modern day extreme sports. Featuring old skool skating footage, exclusive interviews and a blistering rock soundtrack, DOGTOWN AND Z-BOYS captures the rise of the Zephyr skateboarding team from Venice's Dogtown, a tough "locals only" beach with a legacy of outlaw surfing.

Watched 15 minutes and turned it off. Its not interesting to hear old white guys fantasize about violence and not being accountable for anything in the name of being punk. very weird tone surrounding women and women of color and the history of colonization. idk i had to turn it off

I’ve never been into skateboarding but there was a lot to appreciate with this doc. Seeing the history of how skateboarding evolved from surfing was so interesting and that wasn’t something I was ever aware of. It was nice to see how passionate these guys were about what they were doing and how closely knit their group was. But I did think it was longer than it needed to be because after a while everything they were saying was starting to blend together. Theres only so many ways for them to say the same thing about each other and the repetitiveness was making me a little impatient.
The editing of this doc is wild and I think whoever was put in charge of it must’ve been on acid or something. With that being said I think it totally works for what this film is about and I liked that a documentary about going against the mainstream purposefully goes against the mainstream rules of cinema. The soundtrack is also amazing and even though some of the song changes were a little too abrupt for my liking they all fit the vibe perfectly. Even if you’re not interested in skateboarding I would still recommend giving this documentary a try because it’s a very interesting story with a lot of solid filmmaking behind it.
