What a strange one
I’m at a bit of a loss I feel like I should be this generous but the fact of the matter is this looked incredible and I was so down from start to finish
The beauty of it is it’s nothing new
I didn’t know this until doing some post-viewing research but it seems the 2 stories this splits into are based HEAVILY off pre-existing films which is really cool and definitely plays to its hand for me
This isn’t trying to be new or different, which is good because it isn’t
Idk what it is trying to do, but I’m so down for it
The visuals help a lot, it’s gritty and flat, the humidity is felt through the screen but for once I don’t find it smothering
It’s actually pleasant to watch this cruel bleak world in its black and white grainyness which is an incredible feat in my eyes bc that’s something that I often find a bit frustrating
This feels like it’s breached some gap for me and shown a new way of doing things, even with such basic and recycled methods and stories
Which is really cool and quite crazy to think
Also the way the 2 stories are connected was so so good I loved it
So out of place which kind of make it work better
Like dipping in a freezing plunge pool before going back to the water it was fantastic
Interested to see how my opinions change if they do, but it seems that if ppl don’t like this so much it’s bc they couldn’t look passed the ‘basic’ ness of it and I can see that
Buttttttt I didn’t find that made much of an impact on me, I was certainly aware of it but it was doing more for me behind the scenes which I think allowed it to get away with being a bit uninspired in the sense
But then again it was ltr other ppls films reinterpreted or whatever so even then I don’t care
Weird weird weird but good good good
