In theory The Carpenter’s Son could be a very thought provoking and risky religious horror piece. You get glimpses of that, but it almost tip-toes around its own identity. Where you have great performances and creepy imagery, you also get what feels like a waste of a great idea and premise. It is a shame because there’s a lot of care that has gone into the technical aspects of the film. Great use of location and amazing production design… but at the end of the day- the concept is more bold than the films actual execution.
