A story about the continuity and collapse of history, the power of suppression, and the terror of reconciliation; loyalty, treason and revenge. In a brave cinematic game, Heinrich Böll’s story Billiards at Half-Past Nine is split up into cracks, blocks, breaks and sudden turns, as the life story of a German family, covering numerous generations, is propelled forward.
Directed by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet

Même si c’est que des flashback etc le récit est trop décousu et compliqué à comprendre. On réalise que vers la fin que c’est la même famille sur plusieurs générations

I was super captivated by the first 10 minutes but everything slowly started to drift away from me until the ending, which was powerful but I'd need to watch this again to 'get it'

Like, I'm assuming, every Straub/Huillet film following this, every word, every cut, is like a gunshot to the chest. There is no 'useless' word, everything serves a purpose and that is exactly what makes this film so difficult to digest. The difficulty lies in trying to stay afloat, avoiding the inevitable suffocation if your attention is lost
