I read the book adaptation of Wadjda when I was younger, and only recently found out that it's based on the film, so I decided to give this a watch as I remember pretty much everything that happened in the novel. The plot was very good, and it showed a thorough snapshot of life for girls like Wadjda, but a lot of elements that made the book great were missing, like the sense of girl/womanhood within the restrictions of society and the bond she had with Abdullah and with Fatin and Fatima; I also felt that the film rushed through Wadjda's preparation for the competition. However, the cast were fantastic, especially Reem Abdullah (who's one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen), and for the most part captured the complexities of their characters. Overall, though I think I prefer the book, Wadjda is a nice film that's simultaneously heart-wrenching and uplifting, and I'd certainly rewatch it.
