1982 | Stephen King | Book Adaptations | Shorts
I really don’t get all the bad ratings.
“The Boogeyman” is a 1982 short film based on the Stephen King short story of the same name first published in 1973 and later released as part of the short story collection ‘Night Shift’ in 1978.
And sure, it’s super cheap, rough and unpolished, but I liked it a lot. It’s got some great atmosphere and some cool lighting and does a fantastic job at adapting the story. The lead actor might not be great, but he’s decent enough.
And I really like how they adapted the story. It stays extremely close to it and is a bit more ambiguous than King’s story, which itself already went into the question who the real boogeyman is; the monster in the closet or a neglectful and abusive parent.
I really liked this short. It’s cheap and very rough around the edges, but charming and atmospheric.
